Yoga

“I would highly recommend Jen for personal yoga training and assistance. She listens very attentively to issues you have. In our initial meeting, she suggested some techniques for me to try. Then she followed up with a video showing even more potential solutions. It is great so you can watch it over and over. She is very accessible and encourages feedback.”

“I did yoga as a college student in the 1970s but had not practiced for 40 years. One day my wife Gail suggested that I go to a yoga class at Sport & Health. It was one of Jen Young’s Saturday 90 minute classes. I liked the music and told my grandchildren that it was “hip-hop yoga.” The name stuck (even though that’s not really Jen’s style) and so did I with the class. After a few sessions, I realized that I had many questions and thought one-on-one sessions would be a way to make progress with my practice. I asked Jen if she gave private sessions, she said yes and we began to meet weekly. I started going to more classes—Jen teaches at my Sport & Health club three times a week. Soon I was going to all three classes whenever I could, in addition to my one-on-one session each week. Recently I’ve added even more classes with different instructors. Together with my private practice, I am often practicing yoga every day.

Jen has become my teacher. Our private sessions have become a program where I am gradually learning where I am flexible and where I need to work—finding edges and working beyond them. Sometimes we focus on a specific position, but more often for me, it is about learning a process, a way of thinking and feeling with my body and moving with my breath. In the beginning, I could barely breathe, my mind was racing, busy with daily distractions. Now I am much calmer, more focused, and sometimes even fluid.

Overall I am much more aware of everything and am making choices about what I want to pay attention to and what I don’t, what I care more about, and about what I care less. I’m not stressed or stressing about any of this. I can more easily put the problems I am working on aside and pay attention to myself and what I need. I used to ruminate, now I put obsessions aside to be worked on when I’m working on them, but not when I’m working on other things or working on myself. All of this is a result of my yoga practice under Jen’s guidance, counsel, and support.

I also practice some strength training and did this more before I discovered yoga. I think that strength training is compatible with yoga and these practices can support each other. For example, lunges, balance positions, side stretches, planks, and breathing are elements of both yoga and strength training. It is interesting to me that Jen has been (and is still) a strength trainer. This awareness makes her suggestions on how to approach and build a practice well rounded.

I’m not sure I really know who Jen is. She is a yoga instructor, a trainer, a teacher, a listener, an ascetic, a dancer, an artist, an athlete, a business person, a whole person, a beautiful woman. I thank you for your attention and patience.”

Movement Ceremony

“Hi, Jen ❤️ I want to thank you for our movement session on  Saturday! It was one of my favorites and really reminded me how much dance and movement are an important part of my life. Since Saturday,  I’ve started dancing around my art studio before I start my creative practice (and during) and it’s really added an extra spark to my being…It’s so energizing and healing!  And, I LOVE drumming! ❤️ There’s something so organic about it! I’ve been curious about learning the practice for a while now, maybe this year is the year!  Thank you again so much for making the time to gift us with such a  wonderful session! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into preparing it for us. ❤️🙏  Gabrielle :)”

Belly Love

“Jen Young is a warrior of love! A Dakini who unearths the lost parts of ourselves that sit at our centers and ask for our kind attention. Her work with the belly is truly transformative. Hand on the belly. I love you. Forgive. Heal!"

-Vanessa Sage

“Feels kind of revolutionary to love a part of myself that I am used to berating for being too large and having too many stretch marks. When I sent that love to my belly I felt my whole self softening, and suddenly I was no longer in a fog of confusion and overwhelm. My belly said very clearly – dance with me.  I had forgotten that dance is what moves energy through my body, it helps me open up to my inner wisdom.”
